Accreditation of qualifications
Two of the main principles on which the European Union is based are non-discrimination on grounds of nationality and ensuring the free movement of workers. Nowadays particular emphasis is placed by European policy on the mobility of the workforce as a decisive factor in the success of the future development of the European Community. Nonetheless, mobility, whether done for educational or professional reasons, presupposes that each citizen of the European Union is able to train and carry out work in any Member State he chooses, without being concerned whether his qualifications, experience and professional rights will be acknowledged in the host country. In order for Community policy to respond to the movement of the workforce, priority has been placed on academic and professional
accreditation of qualifications of each citizen by the host country.
