Jean Monnet
The Jean Monnet Project regarding “Teaching Issues on European Integration at University” is an information initiative of the European Commission, for the higher education institutions of the member-states of the European Union.
Its objective is to create new teaching departments on issues of European integration at Universities and the development of activities of theoretical analyses by expert professors on European affairs through subsidizing the initiation. The European topics taught include studies on the construction of the European Community, that is: Community law, European economy, European Political Science and History.
With the establishment of teaching European issues, the Jean Monnet project contributes to public dialogue and the concern regarding Europe, through the Jean Monnet chairs and the Jean Monnet European cities, work groups and the concern on current social issues, such as the Euro, the Governance of the European Union, the enlargement, the Trade World Union etc.
In Greece, there are Jean Monnet chairs in the Department of International and European Studies of the Piraeus University and the Department of Sociology of the Aegean University.
