On a national level
1) In the context of actions
supplementary to the Operational Program “Education and
Initial Vocational Training” (EPEAEK II) of the Ministry
of Education - Action 2.4.1.a.: “Strengthening of the
Counselling & Vocational Guidance structures”, in
particular the project “Support of the EKEP”, our Centre
(EKEP) is involved in the following subprojects:
Development and Networking with other entities
EKEP
places particular emphasis on the development of cooperation
with public and private bodies that offer Counselling &
Vocational Guidance services. The aim is to coordinate all
relevant actions and to upgrade the services provided. This
is attained through a continuous flow and exchange of
information, and the taking up of problem solving actions.
In particular,
Development and Networking with other entities
In
this subproject EKEP places particular emphasis on the
development of cooperation with public and private bodies
that offer Counselling & Vocational Guidance services.
The aim is to effect coordination of relevant actions and to
upgrade the services provided. This is attained through a
continuous flow and exchange of information, and the taking
up of problem solving actions. To this end, EKEP: a) pursues
cooperation with the said competent bodies, b) organizes
congresses and meetings for Guidance Professionals from
varied fields of expertise, c) updates the content of its
website regularly, d) solicits, collects and harvests
existing studies, research materials, databases, as well as
Counselling & Vocational Guidance tools from Greek and
international public and/or private sources with the aim to
put them in best use and in public access, and e) is about
to develop a network among the KE.SY.Ps (Career and
Counselling Centres), GRA.S.E.Ps (School Career Counselling
Offices) Career Services Offices in Higher Education and
KPAs (Centres for Promotion to Employment).
Development of a database
The
aim of EKEP is to design a database which can function as a
source of information on issues pertaining to Counselling
& Vocational Guidance. In particular, this database will
include information about Vocational Guidance, Counselling,
Education, Training, Employment, Career Development,
providers of Counselling & Vocational Guidance services
in
Greece
and abroad, as well as information about mobility on a
national and international level. Access will be allowed to
a wide range of Internet users (entities, counsellors, the
public).
Enrichment of EKEP’s library
Currently
the library is in the process of acquiring books and
journals, CD-Roms, audiovisual material etc. in the field of
Counselling & Vocational Guidance. It is planned to
acquire additional material in 2006

Enrichment of the EKEP library
The
library of EKEP has been already organized and furnished
with mechanical and electronic equipment as well as material
specific to Counselling & Vocational Guidance. EKEP’s
library will operate as a supplement to the library of other
entities competent with education, training and employment (Pedagogic
Institute, OAED, Universities, e.t.c.). The information
material will be available to those libraries through the
website of EKEP.
Guides in Counselling & Vocational Guidance
This
subproject involves the publication of two Guides in
Counselling & Vocational Guidance with the aim to back
up the tasks of all those involved with the implementation
of the institution of Vocational Guidance. These Guides will
be composed by EKEP with the contribution of other experts.One
Guide will cover important topics for those involved
with the implementation of Vocational Guidance in the
Education sector at KE.SY.Ps (Career and Counselling Centres),
GRA.S.E.Ps (School Career Counselling Offices) and Career
Services Offices in Higher Education.The other Guide will
cover important topics for those involved in the Employment
sector at KPA (Centres for Promotion to Employment) and at
the Employment Offices for Special Social Groups.
Organization of two conferences which will promote the
above Guides and inform the Guidance Counselors for the
content, the use and the application of the two Guides.
Publications
The
aim of this subproject is to publish the two Guides in
Counselling & Vocational Guidance and the 30 job
profiles.
Description of 30 Job Profiles
The
aim is to describe 30 job profiles for jobs that are most
needed in the labour market in information-communication
technology, social services, banking, commerce, etc. These
new job profiles will be published and distributed to the
Guidance Counselors at KE.SY.Ps, GRA.S.E.Ps and ÊPÁs, to
pupils and their parents and to the unemployed. These new
job profiles will cover the lack of the existing printed
material as far as the career descriptions is concerned.
Study of the international quality systems in
guidance/counseling and information services
This study is about the analysis of the international
quality systems in guidance/counseling and information
services in order to propose quality guidelines which can be
applied in the Greek vocational guidance services. The
ulterior purpose is to provide a basis for the development
of a system which can be used for the assessment of the
counseling and vocational guidance services provided in
Greece
.
2) The study initiated with the aim to determine the criteria for certification of qualifications of Guidance Practitioners and the setting of terms and conditions of operation for competent entities, has been completed. The next step to follow is the compilation of a Register of Guidance Counsellors and of relevant entities active in Counselling & Vocational Guidance.
3) EKEP has organized meetings, congresses and special seminars about Counselling & Vocational Guidance with the aim to encourage communication, increase knowledge and broaden the experience of practitioners in Counselling & Vocational Guidance in education and employment.
4) EKEP participates in the design and promotion of a "Uniform National System to Link Vocational Education and Training with Employment" with the aim to facilitate the linking of structures between education-training and employment.
5) EKEP has taken up initiatives and coordinated discussions between representatives of Counselling & Vocational Guidance entities affiliated with the Ministries of Education and Labour. The aim of those discussions was to encourage communication, promote cooperation and coordinate actions to avoid duplication of work and enhance the effectiveness of relevant actions taken by the entities concerned.
6) EKEP participates in the placement (practical training) procedures of students registered in the post-graduate Guidance Counsellors module of the University of Athens and the Higher School Of Pedagogical and Technical Education (ASPAITE).
7) Finally, in cooperation with the supervising Ministries and their competent entities, EKEP has identified, collected and assessed all programs, research works and studies about Counselling & Vocational Guidance that have been financed by various operational programs involving said Ministries or by Community initiatives. The aim was to harvest experience and envision adjustments for similar involvement in future.
