In Education Sector

The sector of Education represents the first, basic ground for the development of actions and initiatives in Counselling and Vocational Guidance in Greece. The Ministry of National Education & Religious Affairs provides administrative support for the implementation of actions spinning around the institution of Counselling & Vocational Guidance in Secondary Education. The Pedagogical Institute is responsible for the scientific support of the same institution. To better serve their aims, the Ministry of Education operates the Department of School Vocational Guidance, which comes under its Directorate of Vocational Guidance & Education Activities (SEPED). Similarly, the Pedagogical Institute operates the Sector of School Vocational Guidance. As regards Secondary Education, Vocational Guidance has been implemented in Class since 1997, in line with the new curriculum. In addition, KE.SY.Ps (Career & Counselling Centres) and GRA.S.E.Ps (School Career Counselling Offices) have been in operation since 1999-2000. With respect to Career Counselling in Higher Education, there are the Career Services Offices, which represent in-house services for Universities and Technological Educational Institutes. Finally, the Pedagogical Institute operates School Vocational & Career Guidance (SEP) Office for people with special needs and people at risk of Social Exclusion.
