SOCRATES: mobility in
the education
sector
The community program SOCRATES aims at developing the European aspect of education. It enables students to make the best of the exchanges that are provided within the ERASMUS program. Moreover, all who work in school education can participate in co-operations between school institutions (COMENIUS and LINGUA) as well as in exchanges related to foreign languages’ learning and teaching (LINGUA). In addition, the ARION - as a part of the SOCRATES program - is an action plan providing study visits of educational affairs experts and people responsible for taking decisions related to educational issues. The GRUNDTVIG action covers the mobility matters within the framework of adult education.

For teachers in higher education
The teachers in higher education can go for a short time period (one to eight weeks) to an educational institution of another country, which participates in the Erasmus program and thus receive a scholarship. There are also some scholarships, which allow a long-month stay abroad especially for activities that are subject to the school curriculum and can contribute in the development of a European aspect. These scholarships are few; therefore they are granted in limited cases.
GRUNDTVIG
The Grundtvig action offers mobility opportunities to all categories of personnel involved in
adult education.
LINGUA
Language youth exchanges
Young people of a minimum age of 14 are able to benefit from the language exchanges within the framework of the LINGUA program by participating in one exchange within the framework of a joint educational program between their school and an equivalent educational institution of another country. They will learn to speak a foreign language through a joint working program on a subject of a particular educational interest of theirs.
Support to those who will be foreign language teachers
Whoever intends to work as a foreign language teacher can receive a scholarship - within the framework of the LINGUA program - at an educational or training institution of another country. Within the framework of foreign language teachers’ training, periods of support (3 to 8 months) are provided at European educational institutions.
For foreign language teachers - LINGUA
Those who teach foreign languages or are specialized teachers who have stopped their career and wish to work again, or are teachers who wish to be trained in language teaching, or are inspectors, pedagogical consultants in the sector of foreign languages, or trainers of foreign language teachers, can receive a support for a period of intensive practice or other similar activities of continuing training in another country that participates in the program. The key objective of the said action is the improvement of teachers’ capacity in the sector of foreign language teaching.
For school teachers (COMENIUS and LINGUA)
The exchanges, which are supported at a financial level, allow school teachers to participate in the program’s educational activities in one of the cooperating schools abroad. Nevertheless, scholarships are provided in order for teachers to be able to participate in activities of continuing education and training.
